I have had these two gorgeous large (20 inch by 20 inch) pieces of metallic foil-covered leather for about 4 years now and have absolutely NO idea what to do with them! I remember at the time when I bought them in London, UK at Spitalfields Market with my friend Maria, she looked at me and sternly said, 'Now, you'd better do something with those--what are you going to do??'

Until this day, I have not been able to find an answer for her--not that she's still asking me--but I really want to make use of all the supplies I have in my studio instead of hoarding up more stuff from miscellaneous shops around the world!

Yay! Today most of my collection was shipped off to be donated for Run for Congo's run raffle. http://www.runforcongowomen.org/

The event takes place in Conover, North Carolina on the 6th November. >>Now is the time to sign up and get ready! Even though my husband asked me if I am sure I wanted to donate so much, my answer was 'Yes!' There is an emergency going on in the Congo--its hardly mentioned on the news and its almost as if no one wants to know about it. But we can do something, as sisters, mothers, brothers, fathers, sons, grandparents, we can stand up for the forgotten and make a difference--however small--even if it is just forwarding an email on the subject or sharing this post. It's the smallest things that all add up.

This is just my little, humble effort. I hope it helps raise some money--so buy a raffle ticket or join a run!! :o)

I just bought Lisa Shannon's book, A Thousand Sisters on Amazon and can't wait to read it. As you may know, part of my proceeds go towards helping women victims of war rebuild their lives through Women For Women International:

Lisa Shannon, heard about Women For Women International and the sufferings of the women of the Congo from watching Oprah and has done so much for them. It is an atrocity, a STATE OF EMERGENCY going on there. Just a couple weeks ago a group acting calling themselves the Lord's Resistance Army viciously murdered over 300 innocent people there and those who survived they cut the LIPS AND EARS off of women and children as a warning for them to keep quiet and intimidate them.

Shannon has written her incredible journey down and is now available for all of us to read and hopefully inspire us to 'Break the Silence' of these atrocities. Here's her book:
